Our society tends to uphold things simply because they reflect the status quo. On the backs of legacy, and tradition, we ignore the mistakes of our past, and instead of driving forward, we constantly look in the rearview mirror with rose-coloured glasses. While we’re busy looking backwards, the institutions we hold in such high regard have withered away, and become empty husks of their former glory. In modern society what need do we have for the monarchy, the military and the big banks? Why roll out the red carpet for these bloated vestiges of the past when they no longer serve us?
